HAPPY "BUY MY STUFF" SALE!!!

i don't do many sales, but i thought do a quick one day sale for my B-Day. it's a Happy B-Day sale, except the "B" stands for "Buy My Stuff".  the idea is for people to buy my stuff for themselves or to give away as gifts, rather than me get any gifts.

so, from 12am to 12pm on Sept 4th, you'll be able to get 10% off your entire order at www.squidkidsink.bigcartel.com

i know it's not a huge discount, but i still gotta try to make some monies. ha. just enter code: OLDMAN when checking out. thanks for the support.

BLOW ME ANNOUNCEMENT POSTER

a while back, the guys over at Urban Vinyl Daily asked me to be a part of their 1st ever online art show. the theme obviously fits with my 10-Doh! figures, so how could i say no? they also asked if i could do some sort of poster/announcement. these are the sketches that went into it.  these were sketched in pen and then Sharpied.

lots of people ask if i have any other So Analog figures in the works, so i thought i'd share some by using them as a pattern in the background. then i extracted the logo from the sticker file they sent me.

here's how it progressed digitally. the background cartridge pattern was one of the last elements that i put in. special thanks to Linda Hong for sparking that idea.

so, here's the final. i'll also be releasing a new figure for the show. i'll be posting some teasers up before the show starts on Sept 8th.

CUSTOM SMUDGE

Paisley Fawn asked if i would customize a Smudge a long time ago. i had this little guy sittin around a while before i sketched on him. but, it was a really long time before i finally painted him. WonderCon and SDCC just got in the way. ha. the sewing is pretty straight and clean for such a small figure, very well made.

these are some progress shots i posted on Instagram. it went way better than expected. i had never painted fabric before, and that's what prevented me for jumpin on it sooner.

i sprayed him with a coat of matte finish to seal up the fabric a bit. then traced the pencil sketch with a Sharpie. other than that, i just hand painted with straight acrylic paints.

i call him a Squdge cuz he's a Squib version of a Smudge. he was a lot of fun to paint. you can get your own Smudge from www.paisleyfawn.com and follow Paisely on both Twitter and Instagram, just search @paisleyfawn.

AX 2012 kinda late, WHOOHOO!!

this was our 4th year being at AX in the Los Angeles convention Center. it turned out to be another great show for us.

i was able to test out our new display stands just in time for SDCC.

i was pretty happy with the front of the booth. the side only had Tshirts laid out, so there's still room for improvement.

we had both 10-Doh! figures and Mini 10-Doh! figures on display. i only had 3 case packs of the mini figures to sell, and they sold out. woohoo.

A-Drive was high up on his perch. hopefully i can get these guys funded through Kickstarter to help make them sooner, rather than later.

it wasn't the best show for Hyperactive Monkey, but Jerome is always positive. hopefully, he gives it another try next year. he probably would if people would buy his stuff, instead of stealing it. BOOOO thieves.

X-Games was goin on at the same time. that just meant more traffic and worse parking for us. i didn't get to see the car go through the double loop, but i had to at least go see the loop.

some instagram photos i posted during the convention. that guy was the first to ever pull a gold figure. he couldn't be more excited.

i usually take more photos of costumes, but i was a slacker this year. i love the Evangelion designs, but not the story so much. this guy had all the poses down as well.

AX had weird timing this year due to the 4th being on a Wednesday, but next year it will be back to normal. it was our best AX yet, so i hope they just keep getting better.

thanks again to everyone that came out and supported us. hope to see you next year along with some new folks.

DEFINED BY DEFIANCE MINI 10-DOH! AT SDCC 2012

so, way back at WonderCon, Spanky Stokes told me i should contact Hydro74 and have him do a 10-Doh! label. i hadn't heard of Hydro74, but once i saw his work, i was an instant fan.

log story short, he agreed to do a label. i had to cut out each front and back label, which ended up being 800 cuts with an x-acto blade. yikes.

his label is titled "Defined by Defiance". my cat Hayu, obviously lives by that. she decided to plop down in the middle of my cutting area, forcing me to take a much needed break.

attaching labels and packing all the figures also took more time than expected.

so, here he is, "Defined by Defiance" by Squid Kids Ink and Hydro74. i only made 100 and they'll be available at SDCC 2012 at booth #5137.

check out www.hydro74.com for more of his work. he's also constantly posting images on Instagram, so follow him @hydro74. hopefully we'll be able to do more work together soon.

also, special thanks to http://www.spankystokes.com/ for the awesome recommendation.

SDCC 2012 BLACK EMO BEAR BY LUKE CHUEH

so, a lot have people may have already seen this pop up on Instagram and some other places, but here's the slightly more "official" announcement.

Luke and JRYU stopped by to do some blood splatter customizing. Luke did the paint, while JRYU and i put on the labels.

here are a couple of shots that went up on Instagram. the one on the left shows the figure in package. on the right side, the standard issue Emo Bear has been up to some murder.

just messin around with my new camera. nothin fancy.

so, SDCC 2012 at booth #5137. there are only goin to be 100 made total. All are signed, numbered, and murdered by Luke. They only cost $20 each at the show, so don't miss out and have to pay extra on Ebay. depending on sales, i may have to limit one per person, so the Saturday and Sunday people have a chance to get one.

also, Luke is planning on doin a 1 hr. signing, but we haven't finalized a date and time yet. that will be posted on all the Squid Kids Ink social media sites soon.

and if for some reason these don't sell out at the show, i'll be putting them up on my web store soon after SDCC.
